The current census is seen to be more standardized and an official government document that often reads cold. This collaborative project with Lauren Williamson and Aaliyah Garnett set out to redesign the census to show a more friendly and inviting approach so that more people would be willing to fill out the information. Even though we want it to have a more inviting feel we do realize that the census still should still show a bureaucratic and reliable feel so the participant feels safe providing their information. We chose blue colors to symbolize trust, loyalty, and a calming color paired with a light grey and the typefaces: Avenir and Futura giving it a friendlier approach. The accessibility of people with disabilities was also a large part of our redesign with either eye sight or other physical handicaps was shown through our book lying flat and the size of the font used.
